Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2027.

The 33-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current season, but it is understood that the new agreement extends his stay on Merseyside by an additional two years.

The announcement comes just six days after Liverpool confirmed a contract extension for Mohamed Salah, signaling a renewed commitment to keeping key senior figures at the club.

The Netherlands international joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a then-world-record fee for a defender, valued at £75 million.

Since arriving at Anfield, Van Dijk has enjoyed a decorated spell with the Reds, winning a Premier League title, a Champions League, an FA Cup, and two League Cups. He’s also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and earned numerous individual accolades along the way.

Van Dijk is currently poised to captain Liverpool to what could be their second Premier League title, with Arne Slot’s side sitting 13 points clear at the top of the table with just six games left to play.
