Nollywood actor and self-proclaimed traditionalist Yul Edochie is sharing some heartfelt wisdom about aging — and he’s loving every second of it.
Taking to Instagram, the 43-year-old actor reflected on society’s fear of growing older, expressing his confusion about why people are ashamed of it. According to Yul, aging is not a curse but a blessing, one that comes with deeper understanding and maturity.
“Sometimes I wonder why people are ashamed of getting older.
Getting older is a blessing, and it’s beautiful because you understand life better as you grow.
This my 43 dey sweet me die.
I don’t want to be a day younger for any reason.”
Yul, who celebrated his birthday in January, encouraged fans — especially those feeling like they haven’t achieved enough — to relax and stop comparing themselves to others.
“If you feel you haven’t achieved much at your age, relax. There’s no hurry in life, and nobody has it all.
Be content with what you have at any stage in your life.”
The Age Conversation in Nollywood
Yul’s message hits home in an industry where age controversies have long made headlines. Many stars have faced scrutiny and online trolling for allegedly falsifying their ages or trying to appear younger.
Just last year:
- Uche Ogbodo clashed with a troll who accused her of lying about being 38. She fired back, reminding the troll that she was already a star while they were still finding themselves.
- Nkechi Blessing, while marking her 35th birthday, slammed critics accusing her of age reduction. “Keep choking on my age,” she boldly declared.
- Caroline Danjuma was dragged online after claiming she was turning 35. Critics didn’t buy it, but she shut them down, defending her claim with family photos and called out their “low intelligence.”
- BBNaija star Mercy Eke faced backlash after her real age surfaced when she posted her Voter’s Card. Unbothered, she clapped back with sarcasm, while her sister Sweery Eke backed her up with a screenshot of Mercy’s birth certificate, silencing doubters.
